Fluid mechanics (Computational Fluid Dynamics, commonly called CFD) requires significant computing power to perform digital simulations of complex flows. The very targeted topics covered by ACRI-IN require specific research and development. We have expanded upon fire simulations by publishing original algorithms in 2003, and applications for complex cases in 2005 and 2006. We were notably involved in the program to design future radioactive waste disposal cells for the Agence Nationale de gestion des Dechets Radioactifs (ANDRA) [National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management]. CFD is also used to characterize fluid/structure interaction still poorly defined in the maritime field.
